As we enter the holiday weekend for Independence Day here in the United States, I find myself getting ready to move ahead. I am still cautious about the pandemic, but I find myself venturing out a bit more. I am definitely looking ahead to our fall event. I hope to welcome many of you back to the CyberWire's Women in Cybersecurity Reception on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC. We announced the return of the event just last week.
We've held the Women in Cybersecurity Reception annually from 2014 to 2019 and paused during Covid. Past events took place starting in Baltimore and, in 2018, moved to Washington, DC. We started with only 50 attendees and that grew to over 400 in 2019. If you'd like to take a look at our most recent event and either stroll down memory lane or see what you could experience in the future, you can check out our online gallery. We are now accepting requests for invitations and you can request yours on our event site. The reception is held as an invitation-only event in order to ensure a mix of attendees with diverse backgrounds at different career levels.
Planning this year's event is new as everything seems to be since Covid changed the way we do most things. While we have some similar facets–the Creating Connections networking theme, the location, the specially-commissioned artwork, we are also looking to change things up. We are hoping to add value to our attendees' experience by holding a panel this year focusing on workforce development. We would love to have your input. What is important for you as you focus on your career in cybersecurity? Are there things you would like our panelists to talk about or advice in a certain area you are seeking? Do you prefer to come earlier (before the networking officially starts at 6pm) to attend the panel portion? Please send your ideas our way.
If your company has a strong interest in diversity and equity, we welcome their support of the event. Thanks to our sponsors, the event is at no cost to our attendees. This year's sponsors currently include: Presenting sponsor MindPoint Group. Platinum sponsors are Cooley, Juniper Networks, and Recorded Future. This year’s Gold Sponsors include BlackCloak, Exelon, FTI Consulting, and Resilience. Silver sponsors are CyberMaxx and MISI. This year’s Women-Owned Spotlight Sponsor is Edwards Performance Solutions. If your company is interested in joining this group, there are more sponsorship opportunities available. Find out more about sponsorship opportunities in the brochure and on the 2022 Women in Cybersecurity Reception website.
Have you attended one of our events in the past? What was your favorite part of the event–the networking, meeting a mentor or mentee, hearing from the speakers, getting a print of the event's art for that year? We’d love to hear from you. Tweet us your favorites to @thecyberwire and use the hashtags #womenincyber and #cyberwomenconnect.
