typosquatting definition

Definition of typosquatting : noun

  1. The practice of registering or using a domain that's similar to, but not typographically identical with, another domain. The purpose of typosquatting is to direct Internet users who carelessly type a url to the squatter's site as opposed to the users' intended destination. Its most common use is in phishing, where a victim might not notice a small difference between the proffered url and some legitimately interesting url. Compare homograph attack.
