VMware will acquire Sunnyvale, California-based API security company Mesh7. VMware stated, "With VMware plus Mesh7, VMware will be able to deliver modern application connectivity services that enable a developer experience that leads to more secure operations. Once the deal closes, the integration of Mesh7’s contextual API behavior security solution with Tanzu Service Mesh will enable VMware to deliver high fidelity understanding of which applications components are talking to which using APIs."
London-based insurance firm CFC Underwriting has acquired Australian cyber incident response firm Insane Technologies, Insurance News reports. CFC's CEO Dave Walsh stated, "We’re excited to bring their team of deeply-skilled technical experts in-house to help strengthen our proposition."
Virginia-headquartered risk analytics firm QOMPLX has acquired Hyperion Gray, a cybersecurity research and development company based in North Carolina, according to Reinsurance News. QOMPLX's CEO and co-founder Jason Crabtree stated, "I look forward to more exciting new features and capabilities in the Q:Cyber suite of solutions and the continued development of QOMPLX’s extensive cybersecurity and risk data sets enabled by the Hyperion Gray team joining our organization."
Voice fraud detection company Pindrop (based in Atlanta, Georgia) has acquired Next Caller, a phone call verification company headquartered in New York. Pindrop stated, "The acquisition will allow current and future customers of both companies to experience greater flexibility and increase their options to support personalization, fraud prevention, ANI validation, authentication and caller verification - all while working with a Pindrop company."

Florida-based security awareness training company KnowBe4 has filed for an IPO and is looking to raise $100 million, the Tampa Bay Times reports. The company stated in its filing, "We continue to experience significant growth, with total revenue of $71.3 million, $120.6 million and $174.9 million for the years ended December 31, 2018, 2019 and 2020, respectively. As of the ends of the same periods, we had annual recurring revenue, or ARR, of $88.6 million, $145.4 million and $198.4 million. For the years ended December 31, 2018, 2019 and 2020 we had net losses of $9.2 million, $124.3 million and $2.4 million, which included $0.9 million, $118.1 million and $5.2 million of stock-based compensation expense, respectively."
Israeli cloud security company Orca Security has raised $210 million in a Series C round led by CapitalG and Redpoint Ventures, bringing the company's valuation to $1.2 billion. Orca stated, "By the end of 2021, Orca Security plans to have nearly tripled its R&D and sales teams since its A round in May of 2020. The company also aims to expand its sales offices in Europe, recently opened a new office in Austria, and has plans to open an office in Australia to better serve APAC markets. Orca Security is also expanding its global partner program and is continuing to build rapid customer traction with partners in the U.S., Europe, Australia, and Japan." (The company's announcement celebrates its unicorn status by adding a narwhal tusk to its orca logo.)
New York-headquartered security risk ratings firm SecurityScorecard has raised $180 million in Series E funding from "new investors including Silver Lake Waterman, funds and accounts advised by T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc., Kayne Anderson Rudnick, and Fitch Ventures, as well as existing investors Evolution Equity Partners, Accomplice, Riverwood Capital, Intel Capital, NGP Capital, AXA Venture Partners, GV (Google Ventures), and Boldstart Ventures." The company stated, "The new round of funding will further accelerate SecurityScorecard's corporate growth with planned investments across new product lines, global expansion, a broadening partner ecosystem and additional functionality to assess and mitigate cybersecurity risk in novel ways."
Jumio, an identity verification provider headquartered in Palo Alto, has raised $150 million in a funding round led by Great Hill Partners. The company stated, "The investment will accelerate Jumio’s significant global lead in the digital identity space by devoting additional resources to automate its identity verification solutions, expand the breadth of the Jumio KYX Platform and grow its suite of AML compliance services."
Axis Security has raised $100 million in a Series C round led by Spark Capital, with participation from existing investors Canaan Partners, Ten Eleven Ventures, and Cyberstarts. The company says the funding "will accelerate Axis' product development and feature velocity, and expand go-to-market initiatives, including expanding its direct sales team, support for channel partners, integrations, and partnerships with leading security information and event management (SIEM), security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR), identity management, and endpoint security vendors among others."
McLean, Virginia-based digital identity security company ID.me has raised $100 million in a Series C round led by Viking Global Investors, with participation from Counterpoint Global (Morgan Stanley), PSP Growth, Lead Edge Capital, CapitalG, WndrCo, Willoughby Capital, BoxGroup, and Moonshots Capital. The company says it "plans to use the new funding to build out its secure digital identity network by attracting top talent and expanding the number of businesses and government agencies it serves."
New York-based digital identity security firm Socure has raised $100 million in a Series D round led by Accel, with participation from existing investors Commerce Ventures, Scale Venture Partners, Flint Capital, Citi Ventures, Wells Fargo Strategic Capital, Synchrony, Sorenson, and Two Sigma Ventures. The company stated, "the new financing will support Socure’s rapid expansion across every consumer-facing vertical including online gaming, healthcare, telco, e-commerce, and on-demand services. Proceeds from the round will also accelerate product innovation as the company’s patent portfolio grows and the company continues to attract top talent. Amit Jhawar, Partner at Accel and former General Manager of Venmo, will join the board of directors at Socure."
New York and Tel Aviv-based OT and IoT security firm SCADAfence has raised $12 million in a funding round led by JVP, with participation from Rapid7. The company says the "new funding will help SCADAfence further accelerate its expanding global customer base across a diverse set of industries – including manufacturing, water treatment, critical infrastructure, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and building management systems."
London-based cyber vulnerability ranking platform RankedRight has secured $500,000 in seed funding from "angel investors John Yeo and a number of private investors including Founder of eLearnSecurity and Managing Partner of Romeo Capital, Armando Romeo, and VP Sales, EMEA at Deep Instinct, Brooks Wallace."
South Korea-based Samsung SDS has announced an investment in Israeli IoT security firm Karamba Security. The company stated, "Through the collaboration, Samsung SDS will extend the scope of its cyber security offerings to include protection of IoT devices against cyberattacks throughout the device lifecycle."
