CertByte: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals AZ-900

On this edition of CertByte, we discuss a question from N2K’s Project Management Professional (PMP)® practice test.

As your news-to-knowledge partner, N2K will advance your career while bringing you the industry news and trends that help you stay a step ahead. Through our bi-weekly episodes of CertByte on the CyberWire Daily podcast, and these companion articles, we aim to support your certification journey and fast-track your career growth in IT, cybersecurity, and project management. As your host, I’ll share a practice question from N2K’s suite of industry-leading content and a study tip (or study “bit” as I like to call it) to increase your confidence and readiness on exam day.

In this segment, I’m joined once again by my teammate George Monsalvatge to break down a question from N2K’s Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) Practice Test. This time, we turned the tables, and George, as the Microsoft SME, asked me the question. For a bit of background, the AZ-900 tests for a basic understanding of Azure services, cloud concepts, along with Azure governance and management. The question I posed to George is a sample from N2K’s AZ-900 practice test*, and not from the actual Microsoft® exam. Microsoft updated the exam on 1/23/24.

Quick Microsoft Azure Fundamentals  AZ-900 study bit.

George shared an important study bit that you should know before you sit for the AZ-900 exam. As the AZ-900 is a fundamental test, it is important to review concepts via flash cards. Flash cards are helpful because they hit on key concepts and can boost your probability of success on the exam. A bonus bit: Our N2K’s AZ-900 practice test features over 200 flash cards, so you’ll be well-prepared.

This week’s question.

Which of the following are characteristics of a public cloud? There are three correct answers.

Answer choices:

  1. Virtually unlimited storage
  2. Resource pooling
  3. Provider manages the network and virtualization software
  4. Only one tenant is supported
  5. Services are always free

Working through the logic of each answer choice.

Using the process of elimination, I worked through the logic of each answer choice and ruled out the option that “only one tenant is supported,” as a public cloud is based on the premise of supporting multiple tenants. I also ruled out that “services are always free,” as this did not ring true and absolutes are something to be wary of on exams, to which George agreed. I then settled on the remaining three choices, which consisted of “virtually unlimited storage,” “resource pooling,” and the “provider manages the network and virtualization software.”

George confirmed that I was correct, much to my relief. Given the nature of Microsoft’s exams, George was able to confirm that studying multiple choice questions with several possible answers is something definitely to focus on, and using my process of elimination tactics is a sure-fire way to quickly and effectively approach this question type.

As Microsoft updates their exams regularly, George shared that N2K recently published practice tests for Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst, PL-300 and Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals, PL-900, both available for purchase on our website at n2k.com/certify
