3rd Annual Women in Cyber Security Reception

September 27, 2016 — Columbus Center, Baltimore, Maryland

The CyberWire is pleased to present the 3rd Annual Women in Cyber Security Reception in cooperation with our partner the Cybersecurity Association of Maryland (CAMI) on Tuesday, September 27, 2016, in Baltimore, MD.

This annual networking event highlights and celebrates the value and successes of women in the cyber security industry. Leaders from the private sector, academia, and government from across the region and at varying points on the career spectrum can connect with each other to strengthen relationships and build new ones. The Reception also provides a forum for women seeking cyber security careers to connect with the technical and business professionals who are shaping the future of the industry.

The Women in Cyber Security Reception will again be held as an invitation-only event in order to ensure a mix of women with diverse backgrounds and at different career levels.

The event will be held at the Columbus Center overlooking the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. A selection of fine wine, hors d'oeuvres and other refreshments will be served starting at 6:00pm. Welcoming remarks and a toast will be at 7:00pm. All guests will receive a special limited edition fine art print by a female artist from Baltimore, commissioned especially for the occasion.

CAMI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating connections between cyber companies in Maryland and businesses locally and globally seeking cyber security products and services.

Call for Artists

We are proud to partner with Maryland Art Place or MAP once again for the call for artists. MAP is one of the region’s leading arts organizations inspiring, supporting, and encouraging artistic expression through innovative programming, exhibitions, and educational opportunities. The theme of this unique opportunity for female visual artists living and working in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area is “Creating Connections”. Creating Connections call for entry is now open through August 27th. The Women in Cyber Security event is all about creating connections among women working in cyber security, and of course, our field exists because of the extraordinary connectivity enabled by today’s technologies. We’re excited to see how this year’s artists interpret the theme. The winning selection will be reproduced and distributed to guests at the reception.

Event History and Founders

The Women in Cyber Security event was founded by CyberPoint International in 2014 as their signature initiative to increase diversity in the cyber security workforce. While women have done pioneering work in cyber security, too few work in a growing, vital industry that requires a diversity of perspectives and talents if it has any hope of meeting the challenges it faces in an increasingly complex, interconnected, and technology-dependent world. CyberPoint hopes that events like this will help inspire women to continue to meet the challenges of cyber security, and will create the momentum necessary to bring more women into this critically important field.

In 2016, the CyberWire has taken the lead on organizing this important event with the hope that it will grow and reach more people in the region.

Previous years’ events were great successes! To see descriptions and galleries of images from the first two events, click here:
