Rick Howard: Hey everybody, Rick here. We thought it would be fun to let ChatGPT write this episode that describes ChatGPT. Most of the content in this episode was gleaned from the ChatGPT interface and then run through a text to audio synthesizer that we have on hand here at the CyberWire. We've also edited for clarity and redundancy and supplemented the answers with newer information. Since the ChatGPT interface is only current to the year 2021, enjoy.

ChatGPT is based on OpenAI's GPT-3 language model with the goal to provide a conversational AI system that can understand and respond to human language in a way that is similar to a human. It was first released in 2020. The generative aspect of the model refers to its ability to produce new text based on its training data, and pre-trained means that it was trained on a large corpus of text data before being fine-tuned for specific tasks. The transformer part refers to the architecture used in the model, explained in the original paper "Attention is All You Need" published in 2017.
